How Much FPS Can You Expect From a PC With RTX 3090?

To put it simply, a gaming PC with the RTX 3090 will represent the top echelon of gaming machines. These are the highest-end gaming PCs you can get hence the performance on offer here is quite exceptional, to say the least.

You will be easily able to play all modern games at 1440p as well as 4k resolution without a hitch. By having such a capable gaming PC, you will also be able to enjoy high refresh rate gaming.

The reason why Nvidia RTX 3090 can perform so well is because of the RTX 3090 graphics card. This graphic card is the best that Nvidia produces and therefore is the most powerful GPU that one can buy for a PC.

Besides having the most powerful GPU, these machines also contain top-notch processors, ample RAM, and fast storage. Since the Nvidia RTX 3090 is an expensive GPU, manufacturers cannot just put out a PC that has a powerful GPU but lacks in other specs.

Therefore, manufacturers go all out with the RTX 3090 flagship PCs and install the most capable hardware in them which results in a tremendously powerful gaming PC.

The performance potential of these machines can be evaluated from the average FPS provided by these PCs when gaming. For reference, let’s take a look at the average FPS figures of the Velztorm Lux.

Mind you, this PC is the most premium offering in this segment so the results of this PC may slightly vary from other RTX 3090 prebuilt gaming PCs, but the general range will be similar.

The average FPS provided by the Velztorm Lux is as follows:

  • At 1440p Resolution

90 FPS in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, 114 FPS in Red Dead Redemption 2, 119 FPS in CoD: Black Ops Cold War, 132 FPS in GTA 5, and 180 FPS in Rainbow Six Siege.

  • At 4K Resolution

60 FPS in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, 84 FPS in Red Dead Redemption 2, 102 FPS in CoD: Black Ops Cold War, 112 FPS in GTA 5, and 128 FPS in Rainbow Six Siege.

From the FPS figures, you can see that this PC was able to chew through any game that I threw it at. This is the performance you can expect from an RTX 3090 prebuilt gaming PC.

If I am being honest, after owing an RTX 3090 PC you will be set for the long run because these PCs are so powerful that you will be able to play all future games pretty easily as well.

How We Choose

Our vigilant team stays at the top of all the latest developments in the gaming PC space. Our team monitors any impending gaming PC release and also tracks down any gaming PC that might have slipped down under the radar.

After a promising prospect is selected, we pitch the PC through our initial selection criteria. If the PC clears that criteria, then it is passed on to the testing stage.

We take pride in finding value to money hidden gems in the market that may otherwise have gone noticed.

How We Test

We believe in making tech simple for everyone. We do not believe in unnecessary tech jargon therefore the testing methodology we employ is built upon the principle of making tech easy for everyone.

Our main goal when testing the PCs is to evaluate each PC as if it was our own. For this purpose, the PC is given to a team member as his daily use machine. By putting ourselves in the shoes of the consumer, the team member has to use the PC for gaming, research work, editing, etc.

Gaming Experience

You are paying close to $6000 for a gaming PC with the expectation that this gaming machine will be the best you have come across. The simple way of defining what is best and what is not is by evaluating the experience it provides.

After all, specs on paper or looks from a faraway distance don’t hold much water. The gaming experience that you are getting with the PC day in and day out is not flawless. Therefore, the gaming experience holds the most significance and I am pleased to report that the gaming experience you are going to get with this PC is nothing short of spectacular.

This PC can pretty much play any game you throw at it at 1440p as well as 4k resolution but on only that, the VR experience on this PC is also tremendous. This is backed up by the PC’s average framerate figures.

For testing, I played various games on this PC. The following frame rate was achieved in all those games

For testing each game, the ultra-graphic preset was used on both 1440p resolution and 4k resolution. From the FPS figures, it is quite clear that this PC is very capable and can handle most games at a high frame rate.

This means that you will be able to enjoy a high refresh rate gaming on this PC if you have a 144hz or higher monitor.

All in all, this PC represents the crème de le crème of the prebuilt gaming PC scene. It is the most powerful PC that money can buy and therefore the best when it comes to providing a gaming experience that is free from even the tiniest of errors.

Specifications

If we were to rank the different aspects of this PC, then the specification part would be at the top. This PC has the top-of-the-line hardware that is currently available in the market.

Beating away at the heart of the PC is a Ryzen 9 5950X processor. This 16 core 32 thread behemoth is the best chip that AMD makes and also the one with the most cores in the mainstream consumer segment.

With this processor at the helm, you are guaranteed amazing performance. Therefore, the performance is not a worry but what does intrigue me is how they have cooled such a powerful processor.

The Ryzen 5950x generates a lot of heat and hence for cooling this PC has a 360mm AIO. This is the largest size you can get in AIO liquid coolers, so it means that Velztorm wants to extract every last ounce of power from the 16 cores of this processor.

The effectiveness of the AIO liquid cooler is very good. It keeps the temperature of the PC well below the thermal limit and during my gaming sessions, I never found the temperature of this PC to go beyond the 80°C mark. Usually, it hovered around the 60-70°C range. Keeping such a high-power CPU within this temperature range is surely quite impressive.

As for the other specifications, this PC contains 32GB DDR4 RAM. 32GB RAM is more than enough for gaming as well as multitasking.

If you are a heavy downloader and like installing a lot of games, then you would be pleased to know that this PC comes with a total storage capacity of 4TB.

Out of the 4TB, 2TB comes in the form of a super-fast GEN 4 M2 NVME SSD drive while the remaining 2TB is derived from the HDD installed in this PC.

Powering all the high spec components is a 1000W power supply. It is quite nice to see that Velztorm has not skimped on the PSU and provided a proper high wattage power supply with this PC to run the components as effectively as possible.

Case Design and Connectivity

The Velztorm gaming PC is using the Lian li PC-O11 case. This case is a very high-end option for enthusiasts. This case uses an unconventional case design that is not normally seen in the prebuilt gaming space. This design however has been gaining popularity in the custom rig market and most likely this is where they have got the design inspiration from.

As for what this design actually is, rather than the typical cuboid gaming cases that we see this case is more of a cube. It is a lot chunkier, is less tall, and occupies a large surface area compared to your typical PC case.

This set of dimensions gives a very distinct and unique desk presence. To add more flare to the design, this case features big glass panels all around except at the left side of the case. Upon looking at an angle this gives the case a 3D effect.

Despite the stellar design, this case is not without its flaws. Having so much glass makes the case very heavy. This makes moving the case a very tedious and annoying job. On top of the bulkiness glass also doesn’t allow for air passage.

This means that the airflow of the case is also affected and hence it will require a proper AIO liquid cooler to keep the temperatures of this PC in check.

Luckily, the case design has no effect on the connectivity of the machine. If anything, having a large face has resulted in the front I/O controls shifted to the front of the PC rather than the top.

This makes it very easy to plug USB drives, gaming peripherals, and other gadgets into the PC relatively quickly. As for the ports themselves, the front I/O ports include 2x USB Type-A, USB-C, separate 3.5mm ports for audio and mic, and a power button.

Having the USB-C port on the front is a very thoughtful step and it makes life so much easier for connecting PC peripherals, especially fast external SSDs drives.

The bulk of the connectivity, however, is located at the back of the PC and here you will find an HDMI port, DisplayPort, ethernet jack, 6x USB Type-A ports, USB-C, and multiple 3.5mm ports for connecting a surround sound speaker setup.

Aesthetics and Salient Features

The aesthetic of the Velztorm Lux is dominated by its panoramic glass view windows. The glass in this case covers a very large surface area and therefore gives the PC a very unique look.

It almost feels like looking at a glass object of course with PC components inside. The glass also paves the way for the other highlighting aspect of the PC and that is the RGB lighting.

This PC has quite a lot of RGB lighting that almost fills up the entire interior cavity of the case. The large glass panels perfectly complement the RGB lighting and make it pop more. The RGB lighting comes in the form of 6x RGB case fans and the RGB-capable radiator block.

All in all, this PC is a nice departure from the more traditional-looking desktops. Not even does it have a unique case but also the RGB lighting on the PC is next to none.

When it comes to the salient features, I am afraid there isn’t much that differentiates this PC from others on the list. That is to be expected though because despite the premium price tag there are not a whole lot of features that you can bundle in a gaming PC.

The features that this PC does have are all very useful and beneficial for use. The most important of the features is the built-in Wi-Fi connection. The built-in Wi-Fi of this PC runs on the latest Wi-Fi 6 technology and therefore the reception and speed of the network are very good over Wi-Fi.

I also don’t have any hiccups to report off and during my use of the PC, the Wi-Fi never encountered an interruption.

Along with built Wi-Fi connectivity, this gaming desktop also provides Bluetooth connectivity that is baked into the PC. Like the Wi-Fi, the Bluetooth also works very well and I was able to connect all my favorite Bluetooth peripherals to this PC without any trouble.

Besides this, there isn’t any noteworthy feature. I must say the feature set of this PC is not impressive given that this PC is touted as a premium offering.

2. CyberPowerPC Gamer Xtreme VR

PROS

  • Lots of RGB lighting
  • Good gaming experience
  • The 12th generation Intel i9 processor provides great performance
  • Built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity
  • Windows 11 supports out of the box

CONS

  • Lack of proper cooling and airflow

The CyberPowerPC Gamer Xtreme VR is an embodiment of the fact that value to money gaming PCs still exists. This PC not only comes at a very reasonable price but also packs in some very high-quality hardware. Although it is far from perfect, some compromise has to be expected. Overall, this PC represents a very good value package for buyers that want a gaming PC with very little price at a reasonable cost.

Gaming Experience

On paper, this PC contains the strongest and the most powerful hardware under the hood. The gaming performance of this PC is also better than the Velztorm Lux which ranks above it.

So why is that the case, well you see the gaming performance of this PC might be better, but that PC provides a much better overall gaming experience.

The major letdown of this PC is thermal performance. While it is not a disaster by any means, the lack of proper ventilation holes means that the temperature of this PC cannot be sustained.

Under heavy load running consistently over a period, this PC tends to thermal throttle. Thermal throttle is a term used when a PC lags in performance and does not run at its maximum potential to reduce heat generation.

This means that in short bursts this PC has the Velztorm beat in average FPS, but those FPS figures are not sustainable and will eventually decrease if you have consistently on your PC.

That being said though, the average FPS of this PC was as follows:

  • At 1440p Resolution

91 FPS in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, 112 FPS in Red Dead Redemption 2, 110 FPS in CoD: Black Ops Cold War, 152 FPS in GTA 5, and 186 FPS in Rainbow Six Siege.

  • At 4K Resolution

63 FPS in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, 86 FPS in Red Dead Redemption 2, 106 FPS in CoD: Black Ops Cold War, 120 FPS in GTA 5, and 144 FPS in Rainbow Six Siege.

Although the above FPS figures depict that the performance of this PC is better than other PCs on the list, when we factor in the thermal throttling issue then this PC slots below the Velztorm with the Ryzen 5950x.

That in itself is a very big achievement, but I believe there is some missed potential here. The gamers that already have intermediate knowledge about computers will know that solving the throttling issue is very important.

You either replace the AIO liquid cooler with a bigger one or add in a handsome amount of case fans. If this is done the sustained performance of this PC will also be better than the Velztorm gaming desktop.

Specifications

If there is one department in which this PC hits a home run, then this would be it. The specifications of this PC are absolutely top-notch. CyberPowerPC has not held anything back in this department and installed the latest and the fastest components that are currently available in the market.

Powering the PC is a 12th generation Intel i9 12900kf processor. This 16 core 24 thread processor from Intel not only has more cores than its AMD counterpart but also performs better as well.

This processor establishes its dominance over the AMD Ryzen by having 4 more cores than its counterpart. This makes it better for performing intensive tasks like VR gaming, rendering, etc.

Although the performance is great, a major disadvantage of having a 16-core processor is that it generates a lot of heat especially when playing games. To cope with the heat problem, CyberPowerPC has installed a 120mm AIO liquid cooler in this PC.

The 120mm AIO liquid cooler is the smallest you can get and having a small AIO liquid on one of the hottest processors is a recipe for disaster. Therefore, to no one’s surprise this AIO cooler cannot keep up with the heat and often I found the CPU hitting the 90°C mark when gaming.

If you are planning on buying this PC, then I will recommend adding an extra case fan at the top of the PC or replacing the 120mm AIO liquid cooler for a bigger 240mm one.

As for the other specs, this PC comes with 16GB DDR4 RAM. This is another missed opportunity since the 12th generation Intel i9 is capable of supporting the latest DDR5 RAM. Luckily, the RAM here is user-replaceable, and you can easily add in more RAM to double the already 16GB capacity or swap out the DDR4 for a DDR5 one.

When it comes to storage, this PC comes with the state of art 1TB M.2 NVMe SSD. This drive is used for the operating system since it is a lot faster than a traditional HDD. Supporting the M.2 drive is a 1TB HDD which is used to store games and other media files.

Case Design and Connectivity

The design of the case that you get with the CyberPowerPC Gamer Xtreme VR is rather generic. I mean this in the sense that this same case design has been repeated to death in the industry and is featured on other less expensive gaming desktops as well.

Given that this PC costs a lot of money one would expect it to have a unique and distinctive case. Therefore, it is quite disappointing to see that CyberPowerPC has resorted to the generic case probably to save cost.

This isn’t to say that the design of this PC is bad or nothing. On the contrary, the reason this design is so much repeated in the industry is that it is liked by many gamers. Glass sandwiched cases like the one that we have here provide an uninterrupted look to the inside of the case.

This however comes at the cost of airflow. Since glass does not allow for air ventilation channels the cases that adorn this design usually have poor airflow and the same is the case with the CyberPowerPC Gamer Xtreme VR.

To keep the temperature within control, CyberPowerPC has installed 4 case fans in this PC. Although the fans managed to get some positive airflow going, in order to maintain airflow, they have to operate at a higher RPM, hence causing excess noise.

Moving onto the connectivity next, and if I am being honest this PC has not impressed me in the connectivity aspect as well. I feel that it lacks some very essential ports which should have been included.

On the front I/O, you only get two USB Type-A ports, along with separate 3.5mm ports for audio and mic. Having only two USB Type-A at the front is somewhat limiting gamers in their connectivity options and the fact that there is no USB-C port also does not bode well in this regard.

For connecting a USB-C device, you will need a USB-A to USB-C and this endeavor takes up one of the USB-A ports leaving you with only a single USB-A port which is not feasible at all.

Aesthetics and Salient Features

The Aesthetic of this PC is dominated by RGB lighting and there is no other way around this. The RGB lighting covers almost all the areas of this case and illuminates the complete case without leaving any single area.

After all, the glass sandwiched case design was incorporated in order to boost the effect of the RGB and make it pop more. In this objective, CyberPowerPC has succeeded and for the RGB lovers out there this PC is surely going to be amazing but personally speaking, I am just not a huge fan of the over-the-top RGB lighting.

The RGB lighting is also customizable in 7 different colors, therefore, allowing you to match the theme of your gaming setup and the color of the RGB lighting.

Moving onto the Salient features and this PC is not disgraced with that many features. That is a given since the price of the PC is not as high as other ones on the list. Still, though, it contains quite a few very useful features that gamers are going to appreciate.

The first of which is the built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity. Built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth seem to be standard in high-end gaming desktops and this PC is not breaking that mold.

The Wi-Fi and the Bluetooth here function very reliably. I have no disconnections to report off and during the whole time with the PC, the signal reception, and network speed were excellent. Similarly, Bluetooth connectivity also worked flawlessly, and I had no trouble connecting any compatible Bluetooth device to this PC.

I really like the fact that this PC comes with Windows 11 right out of the box, therefore alleviating you from the need of going through the troublesome process of upgrading Windows.

Asus ROG Strix GA35 Review

3. Asus ROG Strix GA35

PROS

  • Very unique and interesting case design
  • Rugged and tough look
  • Great gaming performance
  • Exceptional cooling and thermal performance
  • Excellent connectivity
  • 32GB RAM is more than enough
  • Built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity
  • Comes bundled with a great gaming mouse and keyboard

CONS

  • Large and heavy

The Asus ROG products require no introduction. They are some of the best gaming products available at a mainstream level. The Asus ROG Strix GA35 is the most premium prebuilt gaming desktop that Asus offers. Alongside a well-reputed brand name, you are also getting top-notch hardware in this machine. The look and the aesthetic of the PC are definitely unique as well. All in all, except for a few nitpicks the Asus ROG Strix GA35 is a very well-rounded gaming PC.

Gaming Experience

The Asus ROG Strix GA35 is equipped with very capable hardware under the hood. It is all poised to provide its users with a very good experience. Although this PC is not as powerful as the aforementioned two gaming desktops, the gaming experience it provides is quite similar.

We also have to factor in the fact that the Asus ROG Strix is more of a mainstream gaming PC than the rest of the PCs on this list. Everything considered this PC was able to keep up with all my gaming demands and played all the games I threw at it with relative ease.

The average FPS for the tested games was as follows:

  • At 1440p Resolution

84 FPS in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, 101 FPS in Red Dead Redemption 2, 112 FPS in CoD: Black Ops Cold War, 128 FPS in GTA 5, and 173 FPS in Rainbow Six Siege.

  • At 4K Resolution

59 FPS in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, 77 FPS in Red Dead Redemption 2, 98 FPS in CoD: Black Ops Cold War, 105 FPS in GTA 5, and 120 FPS in Rainbow Six Siege.

All of the tested games were run at the max graphic settings for the 1440p resolution and the 4k. From the FPS figures, we can see that the performance difference between the Ryzen 5950x and the Ryzen 5900x is not by a huge margin.

When the bigger picture is taken into account, both these processors provide the same gaming experience with the former only edging out the Ryzen 5900x in VR handling.

That said though, both of the Ryzen PCs are interchangeable and provide an almost similar gaming experience. Therefore, you need to factor in other aspects to see which one is better for your needs.

Specifications

The Asus Strix Rog GA35 has this aspect under complete control, and it dominates other PCs due to its high-quality components.

Powering the PC is an AMD Ryzen 5900x processor. This 12 core 24 thread processor is one of the fastest processors you can get in the market and is only beaten by the Ryzen 5950x and the 12th generation Intel i9.

Having 12 cores at the helm means you can pretty much perform any task on this PC and this processor will be able to cope with it. The performance however comes at a cost and that cost is heat generation.

AMD themselves recommend pairing a liquid cooler to this processor in order to properly maintain its temperature. Fortunately, Asus has done just that and installed a 240mm AIO liquid cooler in this PC.

The AIO cooler they have used is of very good quality and that is reflected by its cooling performance. During my use, I never saw CPU temperatures exceeding the 85°C mark when gaming. Usually, they hovered around the 60-65°C threshold which is an ideal temperature target. This means that the AIO liquid cooler is doing its job quite well.

As for the other specs, this PC comes with 32GB DDR4 RAM. 32GB RAM capacity is plenty for gaming as well as VR. You will have no stutter or anything when even running the most demanding of games and using the most intensive VR applications.

If you are fond of storing a lot of games on your PC, then you will be pleased to know that the ROG GA35 has a combined storage capacity of 3TB. 1TB storage comes in the form of a super-fast 1TB GEN 4 M.2 NVMe drive which gives the PC its snappy feel. The remaining 2TB storage comes in the form of an HDD.

Case Design and Connectivity

The case that is used for the Asus ROG Strix GA35 is definitely unique and unlike anything I have seen on other gaming PCs.

For starters, this case is huge, and this is contrary to the popular trend of making cases compact and narrower. This full-size tower is also designed differently. Rather than having an even and smooth panel design, this case goes in the completely opposite direction.

The front panel of this case is split into three distinct sections, the top section has a rubberized matte plastic finish, while the outer section has a plastic trim attached to it that gives the case a meaner and aggressive look.

The bottom section has cutouts that act as air channels and allow air into the PC. Indeed, there is a lot going on with the front panel design of this case, but it all comes together rather nicely in a coherent manner.

The side glass panel of the case is like you would in most other gaming cases as well so nothing special here. One design element of the Asus ROG Strix that I especially like is the inclusion of a grab handle at the top of the case.

Since this case is quite large and heavy the grab handle really helps when moving the PC case around. Since we are at the top of the case, I would like to add that the whole top panel of the case has ventilation holes for air to pass which greatly aids in maintaining the temperature of this PC.

When it comes to connectivity, Asus has listened to the demand of the consumers and adjusted the port selection on this PC to cater to the needs of gamers. Strictly speaking, this PC has all the ports that you will ever need.

One aspect I especially like here is the fact that you get a USB-C port at the front of the PC. With the increase in USB-C devices and peripherals, having a front-mounted USB-C port is very convenient and comes in quite handy.

Aesthetics and Salient Features

This PC boasts an unconventional look. At first, I wasn’t really fond of the way this PC looked but it grew up on me. This is because there is a lot going on with the design of this PC and it needs time to grow on you.

But once it does you really get to appreciate the intricacy that this PC brings to the table. I would go on to say the rugged look of this PC appears quite premium. The added uniqueness aspect doesn’t hurt either.

On the whole, the aesthetics of this PC is defined by the design of this case. Some gamers like it while others may seem a bit too off-putting.

Asus is very proactive in this domain and does not shy away from experimenting with its gaming desktops. This time around their experiments has riped fruit in the form of interactive features.

The biggest highlight of this PC is the inclusion of a hot-swappable SSD drive bay. This is a very handy feature especially if you are fond of playing in LAN tournaments or often carry your PC to a friend’s house. This way you can quickly remove the SSD drive and take the drive with you rather than taking the complete PC.

Besides the hot-swappable drive feature, this PC gets built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity for maximum convenience. The Wi-Fi runs on the latest 6E technology and therefore has great network speed and stability. Asus has also optimized the Wi-Fi performance for minimum lag so that you can enjoy your favorite games seamlessly.

This PC also comes with a separate keyboard and mouse bundle. Normally, keyboards and mice that come bundled with gaming PCs are not worth using but these are an exception. Both the ROG scope gaming keyboard and ROG chakram gaming mouse that this PC comes with are very solid devices.

4. Skytech Prism II

PROS

  • Value for money gaming PC
  • Compact and narrow case
  • Plenty of RGB lighting
  • Good connectivity
  • Excellent cooling and thermal performance
  • Good gaming performance
  • Built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity

CONS

  • 16GB RAM is less compared to the competition
  • 1TB storage capacity is not sufficient enough

SkyTech makes enthusiast-grade gaming PCs for mainstream consumers. The Skytech Prism II is inspired by the custom PC scene and as a result, offers some great traits that you otherwise don’t expect on a prebuilt gaming PC. All the while this PC does not compromise on the hardware quality and features the top components that are currently available in the market. This PC almost nicked the first spot on our list but failed to make it due to only minor nitpicks.

Gaming Experience

The specialty of the SkyTech Prism II is that it can provide a very good gaming experience without breaking the bank.

The PC can achieve this by having high-end hardware under the hood to maximize performance but with cost-cutting measures. This PC skimps on features and also in some other aspects to keep cost low and performance high.

This is demonstrated in the average FPS figures on this PC. I played the same games for testing as I played on other gaming machines. The average frame rate was as follows:

From the FPS numbers, it is quite obvious that the gaming performance of this PC is virtually identical to the Asus ROG Strix GA35 but that doesn’t mean this PC provides a similar gaming experience that the Asus does.

I will knock a couple of points from the gaming experience of this PC because it lacks some beneficial features that the Asus gives.

Despite that, the gaming experience of this PC is not a whole lot different and objectively speaking the slight decrease in gaming experience is matched by a hefty decrease in price. I reckon that is a fair trade to make.

Specifications

The SkyTech Prism II makes a very strong case for itself in the specs department. It not only has very powerful hardware but also features the latest components.

At the heart of the PC is an AMD Ryzen 9 5900x processor. This 12 core 24 thread processor from AMD is a very good performer. Albeit slower than its Intel 12th generation counterpart this processor still holds up very well for gaming as well as for VR.

Given that it has 12 cores, most of the time games and even other applications won’t be able to fully utilize all its cores hence you should not have to worry about this processor lagging in performance despite it being not as powerful as the Intel one.

The advantage that you get with the Ryzen 5900x processor is that it comparatively generates less heat compared to Intel processors. Therefore, the 360mm AIO liquid cooler on this PC is a little overkill for the CPU.

That being said though, the AIO liquid cooler easily keeps the temperature of this Ryzen 5900x CPU below 80°C when gaming. Usually, the temperature hovers around the 60-70°C mark.

In the case of the other specs, this PC comes with a 16GB DDR4 that is running at the clock speed of 3200MHz. 16GB RAM is enough for gaming but for VR applications it might cause an issue. The good thing about this PC is that the RAM is easily upgradeable, and you can pop in a 16GB kit with relative ease to double the RAM capacity to 32GB.

Despite other specs of this PC being top-notch, I am disappointed by the fact that this PC comes with only 1TB M2 NVME SSD. Despite the 1TB SSD being very fast, it will run out of space quite quickly when you start downloading a lot of games on your gaming machine.

Case Design and Connectivity

The case design of this PC highly resembles the aforementioned Velztorm Lux gaming desktop. The only minor difference is that the case of this PC is not as well refined and polished as the Velztorm. This is expected because the Velztorm is a tier above the SkyTech Prism II in premiumness.

Nevertheless, the compact design and wider width make this case unique from the traditional tower-style cases that you see often used on other gaming PCs.

Unlike the Velztorm gaming PC, this SkyTech Prism II comes in a matte black color scheme. I have to say, I prefer the matte black color scheme of this PC more than the white glossy color scheme of the Velztorm.

Overall, in terms of the case design, my opinions have not changed for this style of case. I believe this style of case is the best when compared with other traditional cases and is also quite good for airflow.

The SkyTech Prism II excels in the connectivity front. It has all the ports that you will send for connectivity purposes and the positioning of all the ports is also great.

I especially like the front-mounted USB-C port. Normally, most gaming PCs don’t come with front-mounted USB-C ports but upon using several PCs I can confirm that the ones that do come with one are very handy and beneficial for daily use.

Other ports on the front include 2x USB Type-A, a single 3.5mm combo audio/mic port, a button to change the color of RGB lighting, and a power button.

The bulk of the I/O is found on the back of the PC, and these include HDMI, ethernet jack, DisplayPort, 5x USB Type-A port, USB-C ports, and additional 3.5mm ports for connecting multiple speakers in a 7.1 surround channel.

Aesthetics and Salient Features

In terms of the aesthetics, one thing is for sure that this PC looks apart. To put it simply, while other gaming PCs with traditionally styled cases look like square boxes, this PC on the other hand looks like a cabinet. A well-built all-glass cabinet that is with computer parts inside.

This is certainly not your everyday look. This is the main aesthetic quirk of this PC and the key aspect that plays a crucial part in determining the look of the PC.

Coming onto the salient features next, this PC has a fair share of decent features that are quite beneficial in daily use.

The main key feature of this PC is the built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity that it offers. Both the Wi-Fi and the Bluetooth use the latest technology so the connection here is quite stable and reliable.

The network speed is also quite good with a minimal lag to report. The sound quality over Bluetooth is also very good and the lag mitigation turned out to be surprisingly pleasant. All in all, I had my Sony WF-1000XM3 connected to this PC without any trouble and really enjoyed listening to it.

PROS

  • Inexpensive compared to similar gaming PCs

  • Plenty of RGB lighting
  • Good performance for the price
  • Decent connectivity
  • Built-in Wi-FI and Bluetooth connectivity

CONS

  • Outdated and less powerful processor

iBUYPOWER has always been known for providing solid gaming PCs at a great price and the iBUYPOWER Pro Trace 5 is no exception. This latest offering is jam-packed with exceptional hardware and in typically iBUYPOWER fashion is also loaded with RGB lighting. Despite this, the PC comes at the cheapest price compared to the competition which is made possible because of some price-cutting in certain areas.

Gaming Experience

The iBUYPOWER Trace 5 is a relatively budget gaming PC but nowhere is this fact reflected in its gaming experience.

iBUYPOWER has put out a well-thought-out gaming PC that despite being cheaper than the rest of the competition does not feel that way because all the cost-cutting measures are made in places that don’t have any effect on the gaming experience.

The hardware packed inside this machine is relatively decent and for this reason, this PC is able to play all the latest games on 1440p and 4k resolution with relative ease.

As with all my gaming desktops I also put this PC through its paces and ran the same games that were played on other gaming machines for testing purposes. The average frame rate received was as follows:

  • At 1440p Resolution

70 FPS in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, 89 FPS in Red Dead Redemption 2, 100 FPS in CoD: Black Ops Cold War, 115 FPS in GTA 5, and 170 FPS in Rainbow Six Siege.

  • At 4K Resolution

55 FPS in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, 70 FPS in Red Dead Redemption 2, 91 FPS in CoD: Black Ops Cold War, 98 FPS in GTA 5, and 118 FPS in Rainbow Six Siege.

It is quite apparent that the FPS figures of this PC are the worst on the list but the important thing to note here is that they are not less than a very high margin. This begs the question of whether this slight hit in FPS is worth the less price tag.

If you ask me, it certainly is if you are a gamer on a budget looking for the cheapest possible prebuilt PC with RTX 3090.

Specifications

Being a veteran in the prebuilt gaming PC industry iBUYPOWER cannot do wrong when it comes to the specifications of a PC. In this case, however, we have to factor in that the Trace 5 is the cheapest marketing offering containing the Nvidia RTX 3090 so the specs wouldn’t be cutting edge but happy to report that they are not skimpy either.

Powered by the Intel i9 11900KF which PC is a beast when it comes to processor-related workloads. The 8 cores and 16 thread 11th generation Intel i9 has is capable of turbo boosting up to 5.1GHz.

Therefore, due to its fast speed, this processor produces very good performance albeit at the cost of heat dissipation. Also, the 11th generation has been replaced by the newly launched Intel 12th generation so could say that this processor is outdated now.

Despite the obvious performance difference with the 12th generation Intel i9 this processor still holds up quite well in modern AAA games.

In order to keep this processor from overheating, iBUYPOWER has installed a 240mm AIO liquid cooler. This liquid cooler is quite effective in controlling the temperature of 11900kF, but I am not convinced by the quality of the AIO. It produces a lot of fan noise and is not very effective as an AIO liquid cooler should be.

As for the other specs, this PC has 16GB RAM which is on the lower side. The RAM is also using DDR4 technology rather than the latest DDR5 technology.

The SSD however is up to date and very high quality. The 1TB GEN 4 NVME installed on this PC is capable of very high data transfer speeds and hence keeps the user interface of the PC very snappy.

Case Design and Connectivity

iBUYPOWER gaming cases are usually more of the same. Some might say this is done to preserve the brand identity, but I believe this leads to them being too generic. Whatever the case may be, this PC still embodies the same glass sandwich case design that we have been seeing from iBUYPOWER for a while now.

The glass sandwich design means that both the front and the side of the case are made from glass. The use of glass greatly enhances the effect of the RGB lighting hence the reason why this design is so popular these days among prebuilt gaming desktops.

To make the design distinct from the competition, this case has a protruding front handle design. Two metal grab handles protrude from the front panel. Though these handles are beneath the tempered glass, they give a very unique look to the case.

The edges of the front panel feature ventilation holes for airflow. Similar ventilation holes cover the whole length of the top panel. Suffice to say, airflow is not an issue for this case and the inclusion of 4x case fans greatly helps in this regard.

Being a premium tier offering, all the ventilation holes are covered by dust filters which block all the dirt from clogging up the internal cavity of the PC.

Moving onto the connectivity next and I am happy to report that iBUYPOWER has not skimped on the connectivity aspect of the PC.

If anything, the only nitpick I have is that they should include 1 or 2 more USB Type-A slots in the front I/O. The 2x USB Type-A ports that make up the front I/O can be quite limiting at times when you need to connect other gadgets besides a couple of USB flash drives.

That being said though, you will find the bulk of the connectivity at the back of this PC. The ports selection at the back includes HDMI, DisplayPort, ethernet jack, 5x additional USB Type-A, USB-C, and multiple 3.5mm ports for connectivity to a surround sound speaker setup.

Aesthetics and Salient Features

In typical iBUYPOWER fashion, the key aesthetic player here is the RGB lighting. This PC is loaded with bright and flashy RGB lighting that covers almost all the surface area of the PC.

The source of this RGB lighting is the RGB case fans and other RGB components of the PC. Gamers who have a soft spot for RGB lighting will absolutely enjoy the look of this PC but personally speaking, I find it to be somewhat overpowering.

Coupled with the fact that this reduces the versatility of the PC, I would much rather have a minimalist PC than a square box loaded with flashy lighting bits.

Like there was little to talk about in the aesthetic section, the salient feature section also carries the same trend. There aren’t many features to talk about and this PC only contains the basic few features that you expect to be part of a high-end gaming PC.

This PC comes with built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity. Fortunately, iBUYPOWER has not skimped on the quality of the Wi-Fi and the Bluetooth connection. Both of these run on the latest technology.

This ensures that gamers get a solid uninterrupted connection throughout. I was even able to play some sessions of CoD Warzone on Wi-Fi without feeling any lag or jitter. Similarly, connecting your favorite pair of Bluetooth headphones is also no fuss and can be done with great effectiveness.

Final Word

Now that the reviews of the 5 gaming PCs are done it is time to wrap up the article. I hope that the reviews were clear to you because our reviews mostly focused on the consumer side of things and how the PC feels for daily use.

In this article, all the gaming PCs that were mentioned are good in their own right. There is no right or wrong choice and each PC is catered towards a different individual and his personalized needs.

For reference, the Velztorm being the most premium and high-end RTX 3090 gaming desktop is geared towards gamers that want a be it all end it all gaming machine.

While on the other hand, not everyone may want to pay for value-added features and those gamers may be better off with a SkyTech Prism II because that PC represents a great value to money package.

I hope that this classification of products helps you in better the best-suited gaming PC for your needs. Now that you have a whole list of PCs to choose from, do let me know in the comment section down below which PC did you end up going with? While you are down there also let me know whether this is your first gaming PC purchase, or you have owned a gaming PC before.
